What is plantar fasciitis?

Treatment and symptoms of plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis occurs when there is long-term damage or irritation of the plantar fascia (tendon) on the bottom of the foot, which extends from the heel to the toes, and is responsible for maintaining the instep and amortization of walk.

Calcification of soft tissue puts the pressure on the soft tissue and causes pain in the heel, whose intensity varies depending on the stage of the disease.

Judging by statistics, plantar fasciitis is more common in women and obese people and in people whose work requires long standing or walking on hard surfaces, but often affects athletes.

Particularly at risk are people whose muscles of the lower leg are shortened and Achilles tendon inflexible, although this painful condition can be caused by flat feet and high heels.

Plantar fasciitis symptoms of the disease

The plantar fasciitis has three stages: acute, sub-acute and chronic phase. In the acute stage the heel pain is most intense, and usually occurs suddenly, but the primary therapy are cold compresses and rest.

Sub-acute phase is characterized by pain in the heel when walking with a smaller intensity that is present even after prolonged standing, or when after prolonged sitting or when making the first steps, in the morning, after getting up.

Chronic form of disease develops gradually, as a result of inadequate treatment or complete absence of treatment and identified is pain in the heel during walking, whose intensity is not reduced during the day.
Therapy of plantar fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is indicated by pain caused with specific pressures, in movement and when stretching, which specialists confirm based on X-ray. However, heel pain may not always be associated with this condition: there are calcifications that do not cause pain, as it is the case with an extremely painful plantar fasciitis without calcification.

In both cases recommended is physiotherapy and wearing special insoles, also cold compresses and wraps based on black radish, carrot, cabbage and onion.
