Ramsons plant recipes | Herbal drops; Tincture

Ramsons- Allium ursinum

The Ramsons plant is also known by the names of a honey onion or wild garlic. This self-contained edible plant is harvested from March to May in mountainous areas and is extremely useful for health. Find out below how to make ramsons drops, salad, juices and dishes with it.

RAMSONS PLANT USE

In the season from April to June, only young leaves are used and its bulb. Wild garlic is certainly unjustly neglected due to its numerous medicinal properties. Leaves smell of garlic and have a very mild and light taste, while the bulb resembles a mixture of white and black onions and has a spicy flavor. The bulb is used the same as garlic. The stem of the plant is used raw or boiled (leaves) for soup, brew, mushrooms, spices and seasoning. For spread it is finely cut and mixed with fresh cheese and sour cream, chopped and used to decorate dishes or added to bread. Young plant of wild garlic can be preserved for winter by usage of salt and oil or you can freeze it. If it stand to long or with the drying of leaves wild garlic brakes down very easily. Its active substances that the plant contains are thus lost. An excellent combination is also ramsons in olive oil if you are practicing Mediterranean cuisine.

RAMSONS AS MEDICINE

Wild garlic has excellent antibacterial properties, is good for blood pressure, affects the formation of red blood cells, cleanses the liver, intestine, stomach, strengthens memory and facilitates the prevention of atherosclerosis and promotes the expulsion of phlegm. Its leaves contain vitamin C and carotene, and are excellent prevention of colds and flu. Wine with ramsons successfully reduces mucus in the lungs and will relieve long-lasting and persistent cough. In addition, ramsons as a remedy removes gastrointestinal problems, calms gastritis, removes unpleasant gases and flatulence, cures urinary infections, stimulates urinary secretion and kidney work, relieves pain in rheumatism, arthritis, osteoporosis. The bath with wild garlic calms the skin and helps treat dermatitis, eczema, and other.

WILD GARLIC; A NUTRITION FROM NATURE

If you decide to harvest it, make sure you do not get another very similar plant (for example, leaves of lily of the valley- which is poisonous), although the intense smell of wild garlic will surely prevail, so the mistakes are almost impossible. Ramsons plant is the first spring salad and at the same time the first vitamin food, the only problem is that the plant is available very shortly and not throughout the year, freshly picked it can be stored in the fridge for up to ten days. Cooking and drying significantly destroys its medicinal properties, And it is best to prepare a tincture out of it - the popular ramsons drops in the spring period, because they can be used whenever you need it. During summer first unripe specimens appear that can be used as spicy spices in cooking.
