The fruits are small elongated berries with bright yellow or dark red color. Each containing a single seed, and is not longer than 2 cm in diameter. When eaten in a raw state it has an extremely sharp taste so many avoid them. Texture is fleshy and quite reminiscent of cranberries. They can be eaten fresh, dried, in the form of jam, syrup, brandy, and a particularly popular natural juice.

The recipe for the cornelian cherry juice without cooking is very simple. Its preparation will not pose major problems. It offers us a myriad of health benefits and is a perfect natural medicine.

These are all necessary ingredients:
  • 3 kg of cornelian cherry
  • 3 bags limuntos
  • 2 liters of water.

How to prepare this healing potion:

Mash cornelian cherry with hands in a something larger pan. Add limuntos and water and all together cover with cloth. Allow it to stand for 24 hours and then strain it through a proper cotton gauze. Add an arbitrary amount of sugar bag and preservatives but again let it together stand for one day.

Finally pour the resulting juice without sugar in a glass bottles and store in a dark, cool place.

The recipe for the syrup with sugar

Another variant of juice includes sugar, and it is not so highly regarded among herbalists. Again, many people are more comfortable with this kind of drink, here is what you need for its preparation:
  • 2 pounds of cornelian cherry 
  • 4.5 liters of water,
  • 1 kg of sugar.

Preparing the juice

Pour 3 liters of water in a sizable pot, and after boiling insert it into cornelian cherry. After twenty minutes, remove from the heat and wait for it to cool down. Then drain the liquid (save it), and give fruits a good mash.

Thus prepared cornelian cherry juice again pour with the remaining water and cook for the next fifteen minutes. Then remove all aside and let it cool. Mash the mixture one more time and add the remaining liquid and sugar and put it on a low flame.

Stir continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved. Now turn up the temperature and simmer for at least ten minutes. While still hot thus obtained juice is poured into glass bottles (previously sterilized). It is important to immediately tightly close lid, good choices are hermetically lids for the bottles.

Cornelian cherry recipes that you have to try

We will share with you the recipe of Mrs. Dragica from Niksic, which has received many awards for organic production. She is the owner of one of the first plantations of cornelian cherry in Montenegro. It is known that she makes her cornelian cherry jam according to the old family tradition.
Cornelian cherry is first washed, dried and then mash them. Separate the fruit from the pits and then measure how much of the fruit you have and then add 60 percent of sugar. Mix by hand for a full 24 hours since cornelian cherry is very rich in vitamins, but if you do not mix and stir it with a wooden spoon you can change the composition of it. Once the whole process is finished the jam is poured into jars and ready for use. 
This is the only uncooked jam, which mean you do not have to add preservatives and there are no secrets here. Plum jam when cooked will kill every vitamin and the recognizable residue appears. I use it for cakes, eat it with the bread, sauces, as a side dish for soup.

With natural juice and jam we recommend something else. It is a soothing tea, which is extremely useful for stomach problems.
  • For the first version of the recipe used is dried bark with cornelian. Cook for 5 minutes in half a pint of water. It should stand for 20 minutes and then strain it and drink unsweetened tea three times a day one cup, and after a meal. This drink is primarily used to treat diarrhea.

In the same way you cook the tea with ​​dried fruits.

Marmalade with cornelian cherry leaves you breathless

You need:
  • kilogram of the Cornelian cherry,
  • 2 pounds of sugar,
  • 2 cups of water
  • quarter of a teaspoon of citric acid.

How to make:

Pour the water and cornelian cherry put in the pot and then cook for 20 minutes. When cool, crush them and mash. To this mixture, add sugar and put it back on the stove. When it boils wait for 7 minutes (no longer) and then remove from heat. When cooking pink foam will appear, remove it with a spoon. Add citric acid and pour the hot jam into glass jars.

These products are perfectly safe to use even for children and pregnant women. The only side effects is that some allergic reaction occur.
